1. Indigenous perspectives of the living Earth
- Most Indigenous cultures viewed the Earth as a living and breathing entity.
- The source of nourishment, physically and spiritually.
- From a geomancers point of view this perspective continues and during the geomantic process we seek to continue this honouring process in our work.
Many dowsers tend to lump all geomantic energy into the category of earth rays or earth stress. The system taught as a part of this course relies on a more diverse and specific understanding of earth energy and types of radiation. Geopathic stress is an umbrella term that describes the impact that disruptions in the Earth's electromagnetic field and gravitational field (including the emanations and discharges from underground water) have on a place or individual. The influence of place memory and the focussing of thought-forms are also included in this area of study. In order to understand how geopathic stress affects the body we first need to understand some basic concepts about the amplitude, frequency and resonance of waves.
Most traditional indigenous cultures have an awareness of the potential of certain sites on the earth to bring about health and in some cases sickness. These potentials were often articulated in myth and expressed through the concept of the spirit of place. Often places were regarded as sacred or beneficial according to the type of spirit or story it was associated with.
